How do I check in with an e-ticket?

Checking in with an e-ticket works differently than with an OV-chipkaart. An e-ticket does not have a chip and therefore cannot be used at regular check-in gates. However, at certain locations, such as metro stations, you can use it to open gates via a QR code.

How it works:

  1. Open the Gaiyo app and go to ‘Tickets and Reservations’.
  2. Select the correct ticket and activate it (if not already activated).
  3. The QR code will appear on your screen.
  4. Find a gate with a ‘Scan ticket’ symbol and a glass scanner.
  5. Hold the QR code steady above the scanner (where you would normally place your OV-chipkaart).

Please note:

  • Not all gates support e-tickets. Only gates with a QR scanner can be opened.
  • Do you have an Android phone? If necessary, turn off NFC (via Settings > Connections > NFC) if the gate does not read the QR code correctly.
