Checking in with an e-ticket works differently than with an OV-chipkaart. An e-ticket does not have a chip and therefore cannot be used at regular check-in gates. However, at certain locations, such as metro stations, you can use it to open gates via a QR code.
How it works:
- Open the Gaiyo app and go to ‘Tickets and Reservations’.
- Select the correct ticket and activate it (if not already activated).
- The QR code will appear on your screen.
- Find a gate with a ‘Scan ticket’ symbol and a glass scanner.
- Hold the QR code steady above the scanner (where you would normally place your OV-chipkaart).
Please note:
- Not all gates support e-tickets. Only gates with a QR scanner can be opened.
- Do you have an Android phone? If necessary, turn off NFC (via Settings > Connections > NFC) if the gate does not read the QR code correctly.
Still having trouble? Ask a station employee for help or contact Gaiyo customer service.
